Setting Saddle Height Correctly and Completely 2022
Setting Saddle Height
Setting saddle height is best done after deriving your inseam and using a base starting method derived by a formula or by feel.
I use the formula from Cyrille Guimard used by Greg Lemond when working with remote clients, which is .883x Inseam Length. This formula requires the deduction of 3mm from the value if using clip-less pedal.
Once you get this value, document it for reference, since for most saddles, once the fore-aft is set, it will change the original height of the saddle, you will have to readjust, to return to this number. *This is explained in our complete bike fit Guide.
I depend on a reliable stationary trainer when performing bike fits to eliminate variables such as not having the bike completely level and stationary when setting the value. If the bike is not stationary, it is very difficult to accurately set the saddle height.
