Cycling Changing Temperatures
Cycling changing temperatures require some thoughtful preparation to ensure that the riding experience will remain enjoyable and not endanger your well being.
Since every individual has differing tolerances for temperature fluctuations, the following temperature degree ranges can be used as a guideline:
- Above 65F/18C
- short sleeved jersey
- summer gloves,
- bib shorts or standard shorts
- shoes & socks
- helmet
- (optional lightweight base layer)
- 50F/10C-65F/18C
- base layer
- Short Sleeve Jersey &Arm Warmers or Long Sleeve Jersey
- Knee Warmers or Leg Warmers
- light full fingered gloves
- cycling cap and regular helmet or just an Aero Road Helmet
- 32F/0C-50F/10C
- base layer
- Jacket/Long Sleeve Jersey/Short sleeved Jersey with arm warmers & brevet
- Bib Tights/Bibs and leg warmers
- balaclava/cycling cap/skull cap with standard helmet/Aero helmet
- heavier full fingered gloves
- Shoe booties or Oversocks
**The assumption is that you will layer appropriately at the lower end of the temperature in each zone above.
Always give consideration to the direction of the wind and the humidity., Temperature is only one factor of what it will feel like out there.
The use of lightweight brevets and other technical garments can be critical to your long term well being and comfort while riding.
It is just a important to not be overdressed for the conditions. The use of Arm warmers and knee or leg warmers can be essential tools to deal with a changeable day.
